Accreditation Support for HPS Clients
In line with HPS Pharmacies' commitment to working in partnership with health care providers to find a balance between quality, time and cost effective solutions, assistance with pre-accreditation audits, and attendance at the accreditation survey, is available to all HPS clients.
Independent pre-accreditation audits are fast becoming well recognised as a worthwhile link in the preparation and systems analysis required for positive outcomes in the accreditation process for Hospitals and Residential Care Facilities.
This service includes a review of resident's / patient's medication charts to assess compliance with legislative requirements, completeness of records or administration, drugs of dependence storage and records and to provide answers to any questions related to these issues.
HPS takes a 'devil's advocate' approach in assessing processes that may not meet the requirements and highlights these to the site manager, to provide the opportunity to address them before the real accreditation audit. To complete the service, a senior HPS representative is also available to attend on the day of the accreditation audit to discuss medication matters with the assessor.
HPS's extensive experience in government and private health administration both locally and internationally ideally places the organisation to provide these services.

Quality Care Pharmacy Program
HPS Pharmacies was one of the first pharmacies to receive accreditation in 2000 under the Quality Care Pharmacy Program (QCPP). The QCPP is a world-class model for best-practice pharmacy, which has been developed by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, in close consultation with key industry and professional bodies, as well as practising pharmacists and their staff. The program identifies performance standards that must be met by the pharmacy and its staff.
The pharmacists and staff use the information and tools provided by the QCPP model to ensure that the standards are understood and consistently met in the pharmacy. When confident that the pharmacy and the staff are meeting all of the standards, the pharmacist calls for an independent assessment, known as the Pharmacy Accreditation Assessment.
One independent QCPP Assessor, appreciated HPS Pharmacies uniqueness in his comments:
"HPS presents a facility that is unlike any other pharmacy that has as its core a dispensing practice that provides quality outcomes and service to its patients… The organisation has structured a management and supervisory practice that enables all the requirements of ethical practice associated with dispensing to be maintained at a high level to which the community can have confidence and trust."
In line with our focus to provide sustainable services and to streamline the preparation required for re-accreditation, HPS has instigated a closer working relationship with the QCPP through annual assessments of the complex systems and processes that make up the services that HPS provides. This process staggers the full accreditation over the three-year accreditation period, in conjunction with the annual self assessments.
QCPP Accreditation provides you with assurance that HPS Pharmacies conforms to industry best practice and professional standards, confidence that mechanisms are in place to identify and eradicate problems, professional service and levels, and ultimately a team more dedicated to working in partnership with hospitals, residential care and correctional services their achieve your organisational goals.
